You can have two individuals with the same level of intelligence and training...yet one ends up a success while the other a failure. What is the deciding factor? How can you increase your chances of success?
Here are three steps that you can take to greatly increase your chances of tasting success:
Step 1. Believe It Is Possible
Belief is the fuel you need to get started and to keep going towards your goals. Everyone used to think that it was impossible to run a mile in under four minutes...until Roger Bannister did it. After this stunning achievement, many others went on to do the same thing.
The potential was always there. The only thing that changed was one man's belief. What great things could you accomplish if you chose to believe. David Schwartz who authored "The Magic of Thinking Big", aptly said, "Believe Big. The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief".
Whenever you set a new goal, let "it is possible" be your mantra. When the going gets tough, as it sometimes does, saturate your mind with that mantra...you will be amazed at the level of your achievement.
Step 2. Have The Courage To Try
Doubt can be a powerful force in keeping you from achieving your goals. It can fill your mind with thoughts of what you imagine will happen before you even take the first step.
When you have thoughts such as "It probably won't work" or "I am not good enough" running through your mind, replace them with doubt busting thoughts. The following quote by W. Clement Stone is a great starting point:
"Success is achieved ONLY by those who try"
It takes courage to try, but what you'll realize is that oftentimes, your guesses and hypotheses about what is going to happen are totally different from the results you obtain. Stop assuming and start trying.
Step 3. Continue
There are a lot of great starters in life. Just consider the many cases of unfulfilled New Years Resolutions. To succeed, you have to have the stamina to continue...to keep on keeping on.
Problems and obstacles will most likely end up in your path. That's when you need to remember what Calvin Coolidge said, "Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence...Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent...Press On has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race".
As you can see, it takes a lot more than aptitude to succeed in life. You need to follow a plan that incorporates the right mental attitude. Take the three steps to dramatically increase your chances of realizing the success that you desire.
